HADRAMOUT, Feb. 07 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) in Hadramout Governorate condemned on Saturday the direct firing on peaceful protesters by the Saudi-backed “Emergency” forces in front of Sayoun International Airport on Friday evening.
In an official statement, the council asserted that the use of live ammunition against demonstrators demanding the withdrawal of military forces from Hadramout eliminates any legal or moral justification for their presence. The council described the incident as the “final nail in the coffin” for these forces in the region.
In its statement, the council characterized the continued military control over the Hadramout valley as “official sponsorship of terrorism and repression” that can no longer be tolerated.
It urged citizens of Hadramout to declare a “state of public mobilization” to confront these violations, warning that silence regarding these practices would lead to a popular explosion that “cannot be contained.”
Sayoun city has recently witnessed massive protests, with demonstrators expressing their rejection of what they describe as “foreign” military presence, amid escalating tensions across the governorate.
