India revokes visas of two British nationals over ‘Free Palestine’ posters

NEWDELHI, Feb. 06 (YPA) – Indian authorities have ordered a British couple to leave the country after accusing them of displaying pro-Palestine posters in several locations in the tourist town of Pushkar, in the western Indian state of Rajasthan.

According to a report by the British newspaper The Independent, officials ruled that the actions of Louis Gabriel Dee and Anushi Emma Christine constituted “political activity,” in violation of the terms of their tourist visas, which prohibit foreign nationals from engaging in political issues while in India.

Local sources said Pushkar is a popular destination for Israeli tourists, particularly soldiers visiting India after completing their military service.

An estimated 2,000 Israelis are currently in the town, a factor that reportedly heightened police sensitivity to the incident, according to local media cited by the newspaper.

Authorities said that on January 21, reports were received that visitors had posted signs in multiple locations bearing slogans such as “Free Palestine” and calling for a boycott of Israeli occupation.

Security officials emphasized that Indian law bars foreigners on tourist visas from participating in political activities, warning that violators may face deportation and could be barred from re-entering the country in the future.
