CALIFORNIA, Feb. 01 (YPA) – Thousands of protesters demonstrated in the streets of Los Angeles, California, as part of a national “ICE Out” campaign against the policies of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Media reports indicated that these protests follow the killing of two American citizens by ICE agents in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
In addition, protesters gathered in Los Angeles to express their rejection of federal immigration policies, demanding the withdrawal of ICE teams from residential neighborhoods and an end to raids,and they called for a national strike, including staying home from work, not sending students to school, and refraining from shopping.
The demonstrations began in front of Los Angeles City Hall before turning into a march toward the city center with widespread participation from activists and human rights organizations.
Tensions and minor clashes occurred around a federal detention center between protesters and security forces as they attempted to disperse the demonstrators, and due to that Los Angeles Police Department declared a “tactical alert” citywide and ordered all officers to remain in their positions in anticipation of the protests expanding.
