TAIZ, Jan. 29 (YPA) – A security official was killed on Thursday evening after being targeted in a shooting in a village within the Sabir District of Taiz Governorate.
The incident once again highlights the persistent security challenges facing the province.
Local sources reported that Lieutenant Majed Ameer, who served as the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) liaison at Al-Thawra General Hospital, was killed shortly after leaving evening prayers in the village of Meehal Hadnan.
According to the sources, the primary suspect has been identified as Awad Mohammed Ali, a neighbor of the victim, who allegedly opened fire before fleeing to an unknown destination.
Preliminary investigations suggest the shooting was triggered by long-standing personal disputes between the two individuals. While security forces have launched a manhunt to apprehend the perpetrator, the incident has sparked widespread public outcry.
Local residents are calling for intensified efforts to bring perpetrators to justice and for the implementation of stricter security measures to curb the cycle of violence and armed conflict in the region.
