AMSTERDAM, Jan. 29 (YPA) – Dutch authorities announced on Wednesday a comprehensive investigation into an incident involving a police officer filmed kicking and striking two Muslim women with a baton in the city of Utrecht.
The move follows the viral spread of footage that sparked widespread public outcry.
The police described the footage as “shocking and raising many questions,” confirming that all video recordings will undergo rigorous forensic examination.
Meanwhile, authorities noted that one of the women was detained during the incident last Monday on charges of “insulting police officers.”
The Dutch public broadcaster (NOS) quoted a police spokesperson stating that the investigation would specifically address “questions regarding racism” related to the officer’s conduct. The circulated video shows the officer using excessive force, leading to calls from human rights advocates for accountability and measures to prevent the recurrence of such discriminatory practices.
