WASHINGTON, Jan. 17 (YPA) – The White House on Friday announced the members of the “Peace Council” for Gaza, which will oversee the territory’s temporary administration under President Donald Trump’s plan.
The Peace Council, chaired by US President Donald Trump, includes Secretary of State Marco Rubio, envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Mark Rowan, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and Robert Gabriel.
The White House also announced the appointment of Major General Jasper Jevers as commander of the International Stabilization Force, and named Aryeh Lightstone and Josh Greenbaum as senior advisers to the Peace Council.
Meanwhile, executive council member Nickolay Mladenov will assume the position of High Representative for Gaza.
It added that an executive council for Gaza is being established to support the Office of the High Representative and the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, chaired by Shaath.
The White House statement did not specify the responsibilities of each member and included no Palestinian representatives. It said additional members would be announced in the coming weeks.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli aggression on Gaza has caused tens of thousands of deaths, mass hunger, and displacement of all of Gaza’s residents.
