SANAA, Jan. 16 (YPA) – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Sanaa government on Friday mocked the UN Security Council’s adoption of Resolution No. 2812 (2026), which extends the Secretary-General’s submission of monthly reports on what it described as attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea.
In a statement, the ministry said that Sana’a used the Red Sea issue as a form of legitimate pressure on the Zionist entity to lift its blockade and halt what it described as genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza and across all of Palestine.
It affirmed that Yemeni support, including maritime operations, ceased immediately upon reaching the agreement to halt the aggression on Gaza, noting that this serves as conclusive evidence that the operations were directly linked to the Gaza war and were not a permanent or indiscriminate threat to international shipping lanes, as some parties claim.
The statement commended the balanced stances of Russia and China in the Security Council, highlighting their refusal to participate in politicized resolutions that disregard facts and perpetuate a policy of double standards.
The Foreign Ministry also stressed that the Security Council should have focused on issuing resolutions to curb US recklessness worldwide, particularly its aggression against Venezuela and its irresponsible threats toward Iran and Denmark.
The ministry reiterated Yemen’s commitment to safeguarding Red Sea navigation, noting that the Security Council remains politicized, failing to uphold international peace and acting as a tool for certain powers prioritizing their own interests over international law and justice.
