Armed attack targets protest in Aden

ADEN, Jan. 15 (YPA) – A peaceful protest organized by mothers and families of detainees and the forcibly disappeared was subjected to an armed assault on Thursday in the city of Aden, southern Yemen.

The attack resulted in the forceful dispersal of participants and spread a state of panic across the area.

Witnesses reported that gunmen loyal to the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) opened fire with live ammunition while families gathered at “Al-Aroudh Square” in the Khormaksar district.

The protesters had assembled to demand information regarding the fate of their loved ones—detained or forcibly disappeared for years—and to pressure authorities to resolve this long-standing humanitarian issue.
