135 international organizations call on Honduras to relocate its embassy from Jerusalem

TEGUCIGALPA, Jan. 14 (YPA) – A total of 135 international organizations, including human rights groups, women’s and labor organizations, and civil society bodies from various countries, have urged Honduran President Iris Sarmiento to relocate her country’s embassy from occupied Jerusalem, in line with international law and United Nations resolutions.

In their letter, the signatory organizations stressed that the status of Jerusalem is a final-status issue, and that any unilateral measures, including the transfer or relocation of embassies to the city, constitute a violation of international law and of UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions calling on states to refrain from altering the city’s legal and political status.

The letter underscored that maintaining Honduras’s embassy in Jerusalem contradicts the country’s declared foreign policy, which is based on respect for international law, multilateralism, and the peaceful resolution of conflicts.
