CAIRO, Jan. 13 (YPA) -Egypt has welcomed a decision by the United States to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a global terrorist organization under the Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) list.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs described the move as an important step that reflects the seriousness of the group’s extremist ideology and the threat it poses to regional and international security.
It said the US announcement underscores the dangers of the Muslim Brotherhood and its ideology, which Egypt considers a direct threat to stability and public safety.
Egypt praised the efforts of the US administration under President Donald Trump to combat international terrorism, the statement added.
It stressed that the designation is fully consistent with Egypt’s long-standing position toward the group, which it classifies as a terrorist organization based on its history of violence, extremism, and incitement.
The statement highlighted that the country, along with others in the region, has suffered for decades from crimes and acts of violence committed by the group. These actions, the statement said, have targeted members of the Egyptian police, armed forces, and civilians in a “systematic attempt” to undermine the country’s security and stability.
