2 Palestinian children die due to severe cold in Gaza Strip

GAZA, Jan. 12 (YPA) – The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced, on Monday, the death of a 7-day-old newborn girl and a 4-year-old boy due to the severe cold wave hitting the Gaza Strip.

These death cases raise the number of children who have died due to the drop in temperatures since the beginning of winter to six, and the death of 20 children since the start of the Israeli genocidal war.

In the same context, the Ministry reported that two-month-old Mohammed Wissam Abu Harbid died yesterday in Gaza as a result of the extreme cold, amid the difficult humanitarian conditions the population is experiencing.

For its part, the Government Media Office in the Gaza Strip announced yesterday, that the number of deaths from the severe cold in displacement camps has risen to 21, including 18 children, as a result of the consequences of the two-year Israeli genocidal war.

These deaths come at a time when the Gaza Strip is suffering from a severe shortage of heating and adequate shelter, coinciding with the deterioration of living and health conditions, which increases the risk of children, especially infants, suffering fatal complications from the cold.

Consequently, health authorities warn that the death toll will continue to rise if the cold wave persists without the provision of urgent relief supplies, calling for immediate humanitarian action to protect the most vulnerable groups, especially children.
