African Union to Israel: Revoke recognition of Somaliland decision immediately

ADDIS ABABA, Jan. 07 (YPA) – The African Union called on Israel to immediately reverse its decision to recognize the breakaway region of “Somaliland,” considering this move a flagrant violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

In a statement, the African Union Peace and Security Council following a ministerial-level meeting stated that Israel’s recognition of the so-called “Republic of Somaliland” was unilateral and undermines the fundamental principles upon which the common African system is based.

In a statement published on the X platform, the Council strongly condemned this decision, emphasizing the African Union’s categorical rejection of any steps that would compromise the unity of African states or violate their internationally recognized borders.

The Peace and Security Council also reiterated its call on Israel to rescind its recognition decision without delay, affirming the African Union’s unwavering commitment to and support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia.
