Court in Sanaa upholds death sentences against foreign intelligence-linked defendants

SANAA, Jan. 07 (YPA) – The Specialized Criminal Court in Sanaa has convicted nine individuals on charges of belonging to a spy cell affiliated with British intelligence.

In the hearing, headed by judge Abdullah Al-Hamzi, the court sentenced eight out of the nine defendants to death by public firing squad, to be carried out in Al-Sabeen Square.

One defendant, Humair Ali Saad Al-Siyani, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for espionage and aiding the enemy.

The court also convicted both Mohammed Ali Ahmed Al-Baalul, Mohsen Qasim Abdo al-Maqtari, and Abdul Rahman Ahmed Fatah Shaker of collaborating with British and Saudi intelligence agencies between 2021 and 2025 to monitor senior officials and sensitive military, security, and civilian sites.

The prosecution presented material evidence including covert surveillance devices, GPS tracking software, and encrypted communication tools allegedly used to transmit data in exchange for financial payments and gold bars.

On Tuesday, the court upheld the death penalty of Ali Mohammed Abdullah Al-Jaamani, Bassem Ali Ali al-Kharoja, and Ayman Mujahid Harish.
