US says commando unit lost in Yemen: ‘No one survived’

CAIRO, Jan. 07 (YPA) – Al-Qahera News Channel aired a report citing retired US general Douglas Macgregor as saying that Yemeni forces eliminated a joint commando unit that included American and Israeli personnel during an airdrop operation inside Yemen.

According to the report, the unit — about 70 elite troops — came under heavy fire immediately after landing and was completely neutralized within minutes, with no survivors reported.

The statement, described as unprecedented from a senior former U.S. military officer, has reignited debate in US political and military circles over covert operations in Yemen, possible undisclosed casualties, and the growing readiness and combat capabilities of Yemeni forces.

Military analysts say Macgregor’s disclosure is not an isolated case, but an indication of a qualitative shift in the balance of confrontation. They view it as a clear signal that the battlefields in Yemen are no longer as open as before, and that the cost of military intervention is higher than what is publicly acknowledged.
