Global calls to strip U.S. of 2026 World Cup hosting rights

WASHINGTON, Jan. 04 (YPA) – Global outcry is mounting against the United States following a military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the arrest of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.

The couple was transported to New York to face terrorism and drug trafficking charges.

In response, activists and international critics are demanding that FIFA and the IOC take the following actions:

• Revoke Hosting Rights: Strip the U.S. of its role as a primary host for the 2026 World Cup.
• Team Ban: Bar the U.S. national team from participating.
• Sanctions: Force American athletes to compete under a neutral flag, similar to past sanctions against other nations.

With 78 of the tournament’s 104 matches scheduled to take place in 11 U.S. cities, many governments are now facing public pressure to boycott the event unless FIFA intervenes.
