NEW YORK, Jan. 04 (YPA) – New York City witnessed a protest, on Sunday, following US President Donald Trump’s announcement that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, had been “kidnapped.”
Protesters marched from Times Square in Manhattan to Columbus Circle to demonstrate against US intervention in Venezuela, and carried signs condemning the operation, asserting that it constituted a clear violation of international law.
The demonstrators demanded the immediate release of Maduro and his wife, considering the incident an attack on the sovereignty of an independent nation.
In addition, the organizers of the demonstration indicated that the protests might continue in the coming days, as the US operation against Venezuela remains a subject of widespread international controversy.
For his part, New York City Mayor Zahran Mamdani criticized earlier the US position regarding the developments in Venezuela.
