CARACAS, Jan. 03 (YPA) – The United States carried out airstrikes on the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, on Saturday.
Videos circulating online showed multiple buildings on fire in different areas of Caracas, with a visible column of smoke rising into the sky.
Loud explosions were reported around 2:00 am local time, accompanied by sounds resembling aircraft flyovers.
Venezuelan media reported that the strikes hit the Miraflores area in the capital, triggering air raid sirens.
The reports also showed warplanes flying at low altitude, with indications of a limited ground operation, according to Venezuelan sources.
Later, Venezuelan media later reported that the strikes hit Higuerote Airport in Miranda state, east of Caracas, La Carlota Air Base near the city center, and Fort Tiuna, the capital’s primary military stronghold.
The operations also targeted the strategic naval base in La Guaira on the northern Caribbean coast and a critical communications tower in the southeast of Caracas , causing widespread disruption to local communication networks.
