Armed attack targets mosque in Austria

VIENNA, Dec. 22 (YPA) – A mosque affiliated with the Albanian Cultural Association in the city of Hollabrunn, in Austria’s Lower Austria province, was attacked by armed assailants on Monday, with no casualties reported.

Police confirmed the mosque was empty during the attack, Austrian broadcaster ORF reported, adding that an investigation had been launched and no suspects had been identified so far, while an extremist motive had not been ruled out.

For his part, Rasul Admi, the association’s vice president, said that he was shocked by the attack, stressing that there were no prior disputes, and called for strengthening the protection of religious institutions.
