U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham said on Wednesday that there is mounting evidence that the security forces of the Syrian transitional government are more radical than officially portrayed.
“To say the video referenced in this article is disturbing would be a tremendous understatement. While I support trying to help this new government in Syria, we have to do it with eyes wide open. There is mounting evidence that the Syrian Security Forces are more radical than they are being billed,” Senator Lindsey Graham wrote on X.

He added, “Israel is right to insist on security zones protecting not just Israel, but also minorities in Syria like the Druze.”
Graham’s remarks come after the killing of three Americans by a member of the General Security Forces in the city of Palmyra last Saturday, and coincide with anti-Israel chants by members of the Syrian transitional government forces during a military parade commemorating the fall of the previous regime.
These statements reflect increasing US concerns over the performance of the Syrian transitional government and its security apparatus, amid rising international debate about the scope of the transitional phase and the extent of external assistance.
