First national index for knowledge & innovation to be launched in Yemen
SANAA, Dec. 10 (YPA) – The High Authority for Science, Technology and Innovation (HASTI) in Sanaa, in partnership with the Central Statistical Organization (CSO), continues its efforts to build the first national Knowledge and Innovation Index (YKII), in a strategic move to promote sustainable development.
According to Dr. Nasser Al-Qudami, Director General of Science and Technology Development at HASTI and Acting Director General of the Yemeni Observatory for Science and Technology, the index aims to measure innovation performance at the national and local levels and raise Yemen’s ranking in international indices.
Al-Qudami explained that work on the index began in 2024, with its conceptual framework already developed. The joint national team recently discussed data collection mechanisms and statistical operations to ensure the structural integrity of the index, which consists of 9 main pillars and 64 key and sub-indicators covering areas such as institutions, investment, education, research and development, and innovation.
The index is expected to be launched within the next few months to become an effective national tool for fostering competition between governorates, contributing to the improvement of innovation policies, and driving Yemen towards a knowledge-based economy founded on creativity.
