ADEN, Dec. 10 (YPA) – In a significant development that casts shadows of doubt on Saudi Arabia’s announced position opposing the seizure of eastern Yemeni regions by UAE-backed factions, the head of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, disclosed preparations on Tuesday for the establishment of the “State of South Arabia.”
Speaking during a meeting with STC leaders in Aden city, Al-Zubaidi announced “conducting preparations and equipping institutions” for the state declaration, citing what he called “victories achieved by the Southern Armed Forces in the governorates of Hadramout and Mahra.”
“Praise for Riyadh Amidst Strategic Ambiguity”
Al-Zubaidi’s statements intensified speculation about the Saudi-led coalition’s role. He commended the “great support provided by the brothers in the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia and the UAE,” praising their political, military, and humanitarian efforts and their “permanent emphasis on respecting the will of the peoples of the region and their future choices.”
Al-Zubaidi’s praise for the Saudi stance comes despite a widespread belief in Yemeni political circles that Riyadh was capable of preventing the UAE-backed factions from invading the two eastern governorates, but “chose to align itself with the scheme executed by the UAE.” This scheme is interpreted as aiming to resume the war against the Sanaa government as part of “US-Israeli orientations” seeking to eliminate the threat posed by Sanaa following its recent positions during the ‘Al-Aqsa Flood’ battle.
“Re-arranging the Theatre of Operations and Establishing a Division Equation”
Tariq Saleh, a leader aligned with the UAE and a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, last Saturday revealed part of what he described as a “re-arrangement of the theatre of operations in Yemen under a single leadership,” which means the UAE’s complete control over the coalition’s areas of influence in Yemen.
Despite warnings issued Monday by the president of the coalition-aligned Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, about the dangers of the “unilateral measures” taken by the STC in the east, field developments suggest a “new equation” is being established in Yemen.
This equation is believed to aim at resuming the war and attempting to impose the division of Yemen, after the UAE-aligned factions successfully consolidated their presence in eastern Yemen—a process that has been praised by Israeli analysts.
