MAHRA, Dec. 09 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) has failed to establish full political control over Mahra province in eastern Yemen, despite its increasing military presence there.
These developments coincide with the rejection of a call issued by STC Presidium member Abdullah Issa bin Afrar for a meeting of tribal sheikhs and dignitaries to determine the province’s status.
This rejection came after the Governor of Mahra in the government loyal to the Saudi-led coalition, Mohammed Ali Yasser (affiliated with the General People’s Congress), resumed his meetings displaying the photo of president of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad Al-Alimi, and the Yemeni unity flag, confirming the province’s stability.
The movements indicate that the STC faces complications in subjugating the tribal province, which borders the Sultanate of Oman.
It was noteworthy that Oman recently reopened its border crossing after removing the secessionist flag from the Yemeni side.
