Abuses, mutilation of prisoners’ bodies recorded in Hadramout following takeover by UAE-backed factions
HADRAMOUT, Dec. 08 (YPA) – Human rights and tribal sources have revealed shocking accounts of systematic abuses and the mutilation of prisoners’ bodies in Hadramout governorate, carried out by armed factions loyal to the UAE, who arrived from the governorates of Dhalea, Lahj, and Abyan.
The violations included the physical execution (liquidation) of a number of prisoners, mostly from the Al-Humum tribes, deliberate mutilation of victims’ bodies, and humiliating and degrading live prisoners, sending a clear message of intimidation to the people of Hadramout.
The systematic abuses targeted civilians and military/security leaders loyal to the Islah party and the “Hadramout Tribal Alliance,” in addition to raiding and looting dozens of homes.
These bloody developments occurred after UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions seized camps, sites belonging to the First Military Region, and service institutions in Sayoun city last week, allegedly with the complicity of Saudi forces.
These events take place amid escalating peaceful demands by the people of Hadramout for partnership and justice in wealth distribution, which were met with disregard. This prompted the head of the “Hadramout Tribal Alliance” to declare self-rule and form “Hadramout Protection Forces,” before the UAE-backed factions imposed a new regional reality to suppress Hadrami demands for partnership and fair wealth distribution.
