Senior US novelist boycotts Emirates Airline Festival of literature for Sudan war

SANAA, Dec. 04 (YPA) – American writer R. F. Kwang has decided to withdraw from the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature (scheduled for January 21-27, 2026) in Dubai to adhere to a Boycottز

The boycott came in response to the calls of divestment and sanctions (BDS) movement, which called for a boycott of the UAE due to what the movement described as “current events in Sudan”, and allegations about Abu Dhabi’s role in arming the Rapid Support forces there.

“I have always respected the organized calls for a cultural boycott against genocide from the affected communities,” Kwang stressed on her Instagram account, referring to the guidelines of the BDS movement.

The movement is known as a Palestinian campaign calling for a boycott of institutions complicit in violations of Palestinian rights, and recently expanded its scope to include calls for a boycott of the UAE.
