Fall of “Areen” camp, “Islah Party” strongholds declares end of Saudi, “Brotherhood” influence in eastern Yemen

HADRAMOUT, Dec. 03 (YPA) – The UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council (STC) factions on Wednesday overran the strategic “Areen” camp between Shabwa and Marib governorates, one of the most important strongholds of the Islah Party (the Muslim Brotherhood wing) in eastern Yemen.

Observers considered the move a practical declaration of the end of Saudi influence and its last remaining cards in the region.

This collapse coincided with a complete downfall of Islah’s headquarters and influence in the Hadramout governorate. STC forces seized the city of Sayoun and official headquarters, including the Command Headquarters of the ‘First Military Region,’ without significant resistance.

Islah party formally acknowledged the “fall of its strongholds” and the “collapse of its influence” in Hadramout after decades of control.

Pro-Islah media attacked Saudi Arabia, accusing it of “abandoning” the party’s forces. They indicated that a Saudi military delegation had visited the area last night, threatening to allow UAE-backed factions to overrun the region if Islah leadership refused to hand over its positions to the Saudi-backed “Dera Al-Watan” factions.

This development clearly indicates that Abu Dhabi is deciding the fate of Hadramout, and the next target may well be the city of Marib itself.
