Man from Al-Humum tribe killed after being tortured in UAE-run jails in Hadramout

HDARAMOUT, Nov. 23 (YPA) – One of men from the Al-Humum tribes was and  killed on Sunday after being subjected to brutal torture in one of the prisons of the UAE-funded “Security Support” factions in Hadramawt province, eastern Yemen.

A human rights source confirmed that “Salmin Maqtouf Al-Alayi”, who was kidnapped by the UAE-backed factions, died as a result of his injuries three days after his leg was amputated due to torture he was subjected to inside the prison.

The source explained that Al-Alayi was among 17 abductees, including children, in one of the secret prisons of “Security Support”, after they were held from Ghayl Bin Yamin district.

The incident sparked widespread anger among the Al-Humum tribesmen, who demanded an urgent investigation into the crime, which came five days after the assassination of the young man “Amr Al-Alayi Al-Humum” by gunfire from “security support” elements after he was pursued in Al-Shihr district.

The UAE had deployed its “Security Support” forces, trained at the Jabal Hadid camp in Aden, south of Yemen, to the Mayfa’a district west of Mukalla last June.

These forces were recently deployed to the eastern coastal districts of Mukalla, reaching as far as Al-Hami area, the center of Ash-Shihr district. Their advance was met with armed resistance from the Al-Humum tribes on the outskirts of Ad-Dis Sharqiyah district of Hadramout.

Over the past two weeks, the “Security Support” forces have also attempted to outflank the “Hadramout Protection” camps in Ghayl Bin Yamin district. These camps, recently established by Saudi Arabia, have been led by Sheikh Amr bin Habrish Al-Alayi, head of the Hadramout Tribes Alliance.

The UAE pushed “security support” factions towards areas under the control of the tribal alliance, with the goal of controlling the oil areas in the Hadramout plateau, after Saudi Arabia sent dozens of military vehicles to the tribal alliance factions in the plateau, amid expectations of armed confrontations breaking out, especially after the alliance has established about 4 brigades of factions since the end of last June, in the context of declaring what is called “self-rule” in October 2024.

Saudi Arabia had thwarted Operation “Arrows of the East,” which was announced by the UAE forces command in Shabwa during August 2022, in order to control the camps of the Islah Party-run First Military Region in Wadi Hadramout, after armed confrontations that ended with the UAE factions taking control of Islah camps in Shabwa and Abyan, as the party’s members were able to flee to the Arin camp in the Arma district, east of Shabwa.
