Iranian President: Relocating the capital has become an inevitable necessity

TEHRAN, Nov. 21 (YPA) – Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed that the issue of relocating the capital from Tehran has become an “inevitable necessity,” noting that the country no longer has any other viable option.

In remarks delivered during a meeting with a group of intellectuals and artists in Qazvin Province in northwestern Iran, President Pezeshkian said, “When we previously said that the capital should be relocated, we did not even have the necessary budget. Had the funds been available, we might have already implemented the plan.”

He continued: “The truth is, we no longer have another choice — it has become a necessity. We cannot burden this area with more population and construction. Expansion is possible, yes, but we cannot solve the water problem here.”

The Iranian president also referred to one of the proposed solutions to meet Tehran’s water needs and its extremely high cost, saying: “It is true that we can transport water to Tehran from the Persian Gulf, but the cost of each cubic meter would reach nearly 500,000 tomans.”

He questioned the feasibility of such an approach: “Is it logical to pay this amount for a single cubic meter of water? What reasoning could justify that?”

Pezeshkian called for establishing a comprehensive forward-looking roadmap for the country, stating: “We must, once and for all, develop a new, scientific, and comprehensive plan for the future of the country.”
