BEIRUT, Nov. 17 (YPA) -Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem stressed that Lebanese unity is the way to deter Israeli aggression and restore rights, calling for the Israeli enemy’s withdrawal from Lebanese territories, cessation of aggression, and release of prisoners.
This came during his speech today marking the first anniversary of the martyrdom of media leader Mohammad Afif.
Sheikh Qassem warned against the dangers posed by some parties working to serve the Israeli project.
“What is happening in Lebanon today is a blatant and initial aggression aimed at controlling Lebanon and stripping it of all forms of power it possesses.”
He said that the attack on UNIFIL, the Lebanese army, and civilians clearly indicates that we are facing a serious aggression with far-reaching consequences, stressing the need to confront this threat through all political and diplomatic means
Sheikh Qassem emphasized that the Lebanese government is responsible for putting in place clear programs to confront the repeated Israeli aggression.
He stressed that the aggression is the problem, not the resistance, and that the Lebanese people will not surrender to the Israeli enemy’s demands.
Sheikh Qassem noted that international envoys, in their meetings with Lebanese officials, acknowledge Lebanon’s legitimate rights and recognize Israel’s escalating aggression, which is fully backed by the United States.
He added that these envoys often urge Lebanon to “cooperate” in ways that effectively pressure the resistance, describing such demands as unacceptable capitulation.
Sheikh Qassem underscored that any approach to addressing the situation must start with holding the Israeli enemy accountable for the escalation and attacks, rather than blaming the resistance or national institutions.
He argued that those who label the resistance as the problem simply because it refuses to surrender are, in effect, enabling Israeli enemy to manipulate Lebanon’s fate.
