Al-Hayya: Palestinian resistance’s weapon is a red line

GAZA, Nov. 12 (YPA) -Khalil Al-Hayya, Head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip, affirmed that the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip marks the end of the phase of aggression and the beginning of a new chapter in Palestinian political and national work.

In an interview on the Jisr podcast, Hamdan said that Hamas approached the agreement with a sense of national responsibility and in line with a vision that safeguards Palestinian principles and rights.

He added that this agreement differs from previous ones, as it includes a permanent ceasefire and initial political indications of recognition of the Palestinians’ right to establish their own state.

He noted that the negotiations leading up to the agreement focused on halting the aggression, exchanging prisoners, facilitating the entry of humanitarian aid, and ensuring the withdrawal of Israeli forces from areas of the Gaza Strip.

Hamdan explained that the Hamas delegation in Sharm el-Sheikh had a mandate limited to negotiating a ceasefire, while broader political issues would require a unified Palestinian national consensus.

He stressed that the movement’s leadership held extensive discussions on the agreement before approving it, noting that the decision was reached with near unanimity within Hamas institutions and that all members are committed to implementing what was agreed upon.

Regarding the administration of Gaza following the offensive, Hamdan said the political document included an initial proposal to form a national committee—or a community support committee—to manage the affairs of the Strip during the transitional period.

He explained that the specific functions and authorities of this committee are still under discussion among the Palestinian factions.

Hamas official stressed that the right to resist is a legitimate and inalienable right that cannot be relinquished before the establishment of a Palestinian state capable of protecting its people and territory.

He added that any discussion regarding the disarmament of the resistance is postponed until after the state is established.

Regarding the guarantees for the implementation of the agreement, Hamdan affirmed that the movement obtained verbal assurances from the mediators and the United States.

He noted that a joint monitoring committee has been established to address any breaches, alongside close field follow-up to ensure full compliance with the agreement.

Regarding the prisoner file, Hamdan admitted that there were challenges in determining the names of those to be released, emphasizing that the priority was to establish the principle of the exchange, with particular figures to be included in subsequent phases.

Hamdan concluded by emphasizing that the political goal of the resistance remains the liberation of Palestinian land, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, and ensuring the return of Palestinian refugees.

Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli aggression, supported by the United States and several European nations, has resulted in thousands of Palestinian casualties in the Gaza Strip, mostly women and children.

The Israeli genocide has also left tens of thousands missing, hundreds of thousands displaced, and caused widespread destruction across Gaza.
