OCCUPIED PALESTINE, Nov. 11 (YPA) – The Israeli Knesset on Monday evening approved in its first reading a bill allowing the execution of Palestinian prisoners.
The bill was proposed by far-right Knesset member Limor Son Har-Melech from the “Otzma Yehudit” party, led by National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir.
The bill is considered one of the most extreme measures introduced in recent years, seeking to authorize the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners accused by Israeli authorities of carrying out attacks against Israelis — a move seen as a dangerous escalation reflecting the far-right agenda of Israel’s current government.
The measure passed with 37 votes in favor and 14 against, in what was seen as a rare instance of cooperation between Israel’s ruling coalition and opposition parties targeting the Palestinian national prisoner movement in Israeli jails, according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA.
