TAIZ, Nov. 08 (YPA) – A huge explosion rocked a densely populated residential area in central Taiz on Saturday evening, in the city controlled by Saudi-led coalition forces.
Eyewitnesses said the explosion occurred in a workshop where workers were carrying out maintenance on a tank previously used to store fuel derivatives in the Sinan Roundabout area in the city center.
Several workers sustained injuries of varying degrees, and nearby vehicles and motorcycles were also damaged.
Residents rushed to the scene to help evacuate the wounded, who were taken to nearby hospitals. Medical sources said some of the injured were in critical condition.
The eyewitnesses reported that although the tank was empty of liquid fuel, residual gases and vapors inside reacted with welding sparks, triggering the explosion.
The incident has raised concerns over safety standards at workshops dealing with hazardous materials, particularly in densely populated urban areas.
