DUBLIN, Nov. 08 (YPA) – The Football Association of Ireland (FAI), on Saturday, approved a resolution calling on UEFA to suspend Israel’s participation in European football competitions.
The proposal states that the Israel Football Association (IFA) has violated two articles of the UEFA statutes. The first is the organization of clubs within the occupied Palestinian territories without the consent of the Palestinian Football Association, which constitutes a direct breach of UEFA’s regulations.
The second article concerns the IFA’s failure to implement an effective anti-racism policy, a fundamental condition for membership within UEFA.
The proposal also calls for clear and transparent criteria for suspending or excluding member associations that violate the fundamental statutes.
The proposal was initiated by Bohemian FC, one of Ireland’s leading clubs, which explicitly called for formal action from the FAI to pressure UEFA.
