GAZA, Nov. 08 (YPA) – The Coordination Center, led by the US military and tasked with implementing President Donald Trump’s “peace plan” for Gaza, will replace Israel as the overseer of humanitarian aid entering the Strip, media sources, citing a US official, reported on Saturday.
The official added that with the transition, completed on Friday, the Israelis are now “part of the conversation,” explaining that decisions will be made by the broader body, according to The Washington Post.
The newspaper also quoted several people familiar with the center’s initial weeks of operations, describing them as “chaotic and indecisive.”
Several people familiar with the transition said that the move relegates Israel to a secondary role in determining how and what type of humanitarian aid enters Gaza, while the civil-military coordination center takes the lead.
Consequently, the process has shifted from the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), a unit within the Israeli military that was responsible for organizing aid entry into Gaza, to the civil-military coordination center established in southern Israel near the Gaza border.
This decision comes as the US intensifies efforts to move to the second phase of the Gaza agreement, whereas the US-led center includes more than 40 countries and organizations.
