MARYLAND, Nov. 08 (YPA) – Several people were injured on Saturday and hospitalized after a suspicious package containing a white powder arrived at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland.
A statement from the base administration indicated that the package was opened inside a building, prompting an immediate evacuation of personnel and the establishment of a security perimeter around the site as a precaution against a potential chemical hazard.
The statement added that a personnel member opened a suspicious package inside a building on the base, and the building was immediately evacuated as a precautionary measure.
Hazardous materials teams clarified that there were no immediate threats at the site after initial inspections, noting that investigations to be ongoing to determine the nature and origin of the substance in the package.
The base reported that several individuals were transported to the base’s medical center for further evaluation, without disclosing the number of those injured or the nature of their symptoms.
