Sanaa security media releases details of suspect’s death in Hajjah police custody

SANAA, Nov. 07 (YPA) – Yemeni security media in Sanaa reported that the police of “Ash Shaghadirah” district in Hajjah province summoned Ali Mohammed Shaw’i Siraj, 22, at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday to record his statement regarding a complaint filed against him by citizen Sultan Ali Ali Qaid Salem, accusing him of stealing a quantity of qat.

The district police said the suspect was held at the administration’s rest area while the complainant’s statement was being recorded, in preparation for questioning the suspect and responding to the allegations.

During the process, the investigating officer was informed that the suspect had suddenly fainted.

A doctor was immediately called, who recommended transferring him to a hospital for treatment. However, he died upon arrival.

The police stated that the hospital report confirmed the deceased had ingested a toxic substance (an insecticide), and remnants of it were found in a bag in his pocket.

The district police confirmed that the public prosecutor was notified of the incident, and the body was handed over to the hospital morgue to complete legal procedures and inform provincial security authorities.

In response, the provincial security department formed an investigative committee headed by the Director of Security, Brigadier General Hassan Al-Qasimi, with members from the public prosecution and a forensic doctor, to investigate the incident.
