Protest rally held in Taiz against coalition-funded factions’ violations

TAIZ, Nov. 05 (YPA) – A protest rally was staged on Tuesday in Jamal Street in the city of Taiz, which is controlled by Islah factions.

In the rally, dozens of activists called on Tariq Afash, the leader of the UAE-backed armed factions and the nephew of the former president Ali Abdullah Selah, to hand over the man accused of torturing and killing Malik al-Yaqubi.

The protesters carried banners accusing Tariq Afash of covering up for Adel Al-Ezzi, who is accused of kidnapping and torturing al-Yaqubi to death in November 2017 in the city of al-Turbah, the center of al-Shamaytain district.

Al-Ezzi was the right-hand man of the Salafist leader Abdu Farea, known as Abu al-Abbas, during that period. Al-Ezzi is currently with Tariq Afash’s factions in al-Much city, west of Taiz.

This protest was part of a series of demonstrations in al-Turbah and Taiz calling on relevant authorities and local and international human rights organizations to pressure Afash to hand over the perpetrator to face justice, pointing out that protecting killers and criminals by any faction constitutes a flagrant violation of all humanitarian and legal charters, and that the culture of impunity fuels the cycle of violence in the province.
