New York Times: Bin Salman seeks nuclear deal in Washington

NEW YORK, Nov. 02 (YPA) – The New York Times highlighted the planned visit of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to the United States, noting that he is seeking to conclude a security agreement and a nuclear agreement with Washington.

The newspaper said in its report that “bin Salman is not expected to recognize Israel anytime soon.”

The newspaper stated that the agenda for bin Salman’s official visit, scheduled for the middle of this month, includes a joint defense agreement that Riyadh and Washington are expected to sign, according to a US official and another person familiar with the trip’s arrangements.

The officials confirmed that the “agreement” would be similar to a security agreement the United States recently concluded with Qatar, and spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive negotiations.

The newspaper pointed out that Saudi Arabia also wants to acquire F-35 fighter jets, the most advanced American fighter aircraft, adding that “Saudi officials are eager to move forward with a potential deal that would give the country access to American technology to develop a civilian nuclear program.”

“Securing the nuclear agreement and the defense pact, even if it’s not a treaty ratified by Congress, as the prince previously requested, would be a victory for Prince Mohammed bin Salman,” she added.
