SOCOTRA, Oct. 30 (YPA) – The UAE-owned Eastern Triangle Holding Company, which dominates vital sectors on the island, has employed a controversial method to dispose of its food products that are nearing their expiration date or have spoiled due to improper storage.
Local sources in the Socotra archipelago indicated that the company announced a 50% discount on its products, raising serious concerns about the quality and safety of the food sold to citizens.
In a striking move, the UAE-backed governor of Socotra, Raafat al-Thaqali, launched these discounts on food items nearing their expiration date, which sources described as a promotional tactic for the company rather than implementing food safety regulations.
This comes amidst the “Eastern Triangle” company’s control over essential service sectors in the archipelago, including oil and gas, and the management of the airport and port.
