Clashes renew in Shabwa between ‘Laqmoush’ tribesmen, UAE-backed factions

SHABWA, Oct. 29 (YPA) – Tensions remain high in the Al-Arm area of Habban district in Shabwah governorate, eastern Yemen, following the outbreak of intense, intermittent clashes between the Laqmoush tribesmen and UAE-backed armed factions starting from Tuesday evening until dawn on Wednesday.

The tribal gunmen were initially able to repel the attack and seize control of most areas of the Al-Arm market, forcing the UAE-aligned factions to withdraw and regroup at the security checkpoint and Al-Arm center.

However, the factions brought in massive military reinforcements from Al-Mahfad district in Abyan province, including elements of the “Giants Brigades” (Al-Amaliqa), vehicles, armored personnel carriers, and aerial support from drones. This led to a renewal of confrontations and the withdrawal of the Laqmoush tribesmen to the outskirts of the area.

Meanwhile, new tribal crowds and reinforcements are arriving from the Laqmoush areas, while the sheikhs and dignitaries of Shabwa have intensified their movements to contain the situation.

In a meeting, the Laqmoush sheikhs decided to oblige the youth not to engage in clashes for three days to allow efforts to secure the release of Sheikh Saleh Al-Qumayshi (head of the “Al-Karama Movement” and his companions, whom the UAE-aligned authorities have refused to release since last Saturday.
