MARIB, Oct. 28 (YPA) – A senior commander was wounded on Monday in an armed ambush in the Marib city, which is under the control of factions affiliated with the Islah Party.
Local sources familiar witt the matter said that Abdo Abdullah al-Mikhlafi, the commander of the coalition’s 22nd Infantry Brigade, was injured when his convoy was ambushed on the road to al-Ruwaik camp, east the city.
The sources confirmed that al-Mikhlafi’s convoy came under heavy, sudden gunfire as it passed along al-Ruwaik road, wounding him and also killing one of his companions immediately.
The source stated that al-Mikhlafi was transferred to a hospital in Marib city for treatment, indicating that his health condition was stable.
It is not yet clear who is behind the armed attack, which comes amid the ongoing armed conflict between factions loyal to the coalition, amid the presence of al-Qaeda and ISIS elements loyal to the coalition in Wadi Abaidah district of Marib, where they have taken the al-Samdah area as their leadership headquarters.
