UAE-backed forces deployed near tribal gathering in Shabwa

SHABWA, Oct. 28 (YPA) – Armed units aboard armored vehicles and military equipment belonging to UAE-backed forces deployed on Monday near a large gathering of the Laqmoosh tribesmen in the al-‘Aram market area of Habban District, Shabwa Governorate.

The Laqmoosh tribe assembled after a 24-hour ultimatum they had set for local authorities to free the leader of the “Harak al-Karama” movement, Sheikh al-Qamishi, expired.

According to a local source, dozens of armed tribesmen from the Laqmoosh tribe also gathered in the Hada market area, preparing to block the international highway as an escalatory measure following the end of the deadline.

The source added that the tribesmen rejected a proposal from a mediation committee to extend the truce, accusing the authorities of stalling and showing no genuine intention to release Sheikh al-Qamishi.

The armed mobilization comes in response to the continued detention of Sheikh al-Qamishi since last Saturday, a situation that threatens to ignite armed clashes.
