STC disperses protests demanding provision of Aden electricity services

ADEN, Oct. 24 (YPA) – UAE-backed southern Transitional Council (STC)’s members opened on Thursday fire at protesters in Aden demanding the provision of electricity, which has been cut off for days.

Local sources explained that members of the “Asifa” and “Security Belt” factions affiliated with the STC disperse a protest in the Khormaksar area denouncing the power outage that lasted for more than 72 consecutive hours, using live ammunition.

They reported that another protest took place in the Sheikh Othman area, demanding electricity amid the near-total absence of basic services, including water.

The sources chanted slogans calling on the government and the Saudi-funded “Presidential Leadership Council (PLC)” to leave Aden.

The armed suppression of the peaceful protests reflected the escalating tension between angry citizens and the authorities controlling the city.

In a related context, an official in the Ministry of Electricity affiliated with the coalition-backed Aden government warned of an impending disaster, calling on the PLC to quickly intervene to provide emergency supplies of fuel needed to operate the generating stations.

The official warned of the seriousness of the situation, stressing that the electricity system is at risk of collapse and complete shutdown in the coming days if the shortage of supplies necessary to operate the stations will be continued.
