GAZA, Oct. 18 (YPA) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered that the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt should not be reopened until further notice, according to a statement from his office on Saturday evening.
The decision comes after the Palestinian embassy in Cairo announced on Saturday evening that the Rafah crossing would open on Monday to allow Palestinians in Egypt to return to the Gaza Strip.
Earlier in the day, The Ministry of Health in Gaza had confirmed that approximately that 17,000 patients need to travel immediately outside the Gaza Strip, Al Jazeera Arabic reported.
It confirmed that it had received numerous promises regarding the rehabilitation of Gaza’s health system. However, there is no clear timeline for the delivery of medical equipment to the Strip from international donors, despite receiving such promises.
The ministry stressed the need for the opening of the crossings to allow thousands of patients and the injured to travel abroad for treatment.
