NEW YORK, Oct. 18 (YPA) – Human Rights Watch called on the European Union to continue pressuring “Israel” to end its violations against Palestinians, stressing the need to impose sanctions and trade measures to ensure respect for international law and end the “apartheid regime.”
This call comes amid Israeli pressure in Brussels to withdraw or amend European proposals aimed at imposing sanctions on “extremist” Israeli ministers and suspending trade agreements, ahead of upcoming meetings of EU leaders and foreign ministers to discuss the situation in the occupied territories.
The organization warned that Brussels’ surrender to Israeli pressure would represent a “blow” to the EU’s credibility and efforts to achieve justice and human rights.
It noted that many European governments have already taken unilateral measures in response to the “escalating atrocities” in Gaza and the West Bank.
