Director of Al-Wadiah border crossing survived assassination attempt in Hadramout

HADRAMOUT, Oct. 18 (YPA) – The director of the Al-Wadiah border crossing with Saudi Arabia in Hadramout Governorate, eastern Yemen, Amer bin Hubaish Al-Saya’ri, survived an assassination attempt inside the crossing during the early hours of Saturday.

A well-informed local source reported that gunmen led by a liaison officer loyal to the leader Hashem Al-Ahmar, named “Faris Al-Juma’i, Abu Omar,” attacked the personal residence of the director of the crossing, Amer bin Hubaish Al-Saya’ri, and opened fire in an attempt to liquidate him during a meeting with a Saudi committee.

The source confirmed that the guards of the director of the crossing intervened, sparking armed clashes that lasted for about an hour, causing a state of panic and fear among travelers and workers at the border crossing.

He stated that the liaison officer loyal to Al-Ahmar managed to escape after the clashes to an unknown destination, without mentioning any human or material losses as a result of the clashes.

He also pointed out that the Al-Wadiah border crossing is witnessing armed alert in search of the liaison officer and his companions, amid demands to reveal the true motives behind the incident.

This comes after the coalition-affiliated government demanded last week that the port’s revenues be deposited into the Central Bank’s accounts, after they had been used for the “Al-Ahmar'” interests for the past years.
