Group of residents arrested after raid on historic mosque in Aden

ADEN, Oct. 11 (YPA) – A number of elements of the UAE-funded Southern Transitional  Council (STC) factions in Aden city, south of Yemen, arrested several citizens after broke into stormed a historic mosque belonging to the Sufi sect in the old Dar Saad area.

Local sources and eyewitnesses reported that the raid took place last Friday, with the participation of the director of Dar Saad police and members of the security belt and Emergency Forces.

The mosque was surrounded and stormed while a group of residents and elderly people were celebrating a small feast inside its premises.

Civil and religious activists expressed concern about the targeting of places of worship and religious sects not affiliated with the Salafi movement, warning of attempts to impose a single religious ideology and violate freedom of belief and worship in the city. No official comment has been issued explaining the motives for the raid and arrests.
