Amnesty International issues news statement on Gaza ceasefire agreement

GAZA, Oct. 10 (YPA) – Secretary General of Amnesty International, Agnès Callamard, emphasized on Thursday that the ceasefire agreement “must lead to an end to the war and a full lifting of the blockade.

In a news statement on the first phase of the agreement, Callamard explained that any agreement that brings an end to the horrors of these two years has been cruelly delayed and will not alleviate their suffering.

The Secretary General also called for all internally displaced Palestinians—many of whom have been forcibly displaced multiple times—to be allowed to return to their homes, stressing that “Israel must not impose conditions that determine who is allowed to return and who is not.”

Callamard concluded her statement by calling on the international community to seize the opportunity to end the conflict, saying: “After two years of perpetuating shameful double standards and repeatedly using the veto to obstruct the work of the UN Security Council while “Israel” commits genocide broadcast live for the world to see.”

“It is time to seize the opportunity to put an end to this horror, repair what can be repaired, and salvage what remains of our common humanity,” she added.
