WASHINGTON, Sept. 26 (YPA) – The news website “Walla” reports that the good relationship between U.S. President Donald Trump and FIFA President Gianni Infantino is being threatened by the potential expulsion of the Israeli national team from FIFA.
According to the site, Trump has told Infantino that the potential expulsion must be stopped. Trump is reportedly considering imposing sanctions on FIFA and has made threats that could go as far as canceling the U.S. hosting of the World Cup and imposing entry bans on certain countries and individuals.
“Walla” noted that Trump’s threat to cancel the World Cup could cause him domestic isolation and opposition, as some of his supporters already accuse him of prioritizing Israeli interests over American ones.
In a related development, “Sky News” reported that the U.S. State Department supports “Israel” and strongly opposes the suspension of its FIFA membership. In contrast, The Times and other media outlets reported that the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will hold a hearing next week, with a majority in favor of expelling “Israel” from the association.
