BRUSSELS, Sept. 25 (YPA) – A massive protest took place in front of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brussels on Thursday.
The demonstration, organized by the Belgian National Coalition for Palestine, saw wide participation from the Palestinian community, various supporting organizations, and political parties of different nationalities, along with a notable presence of several Belgian members of parliament.
Participants raised Palestinian flags and held signs condemning the “crimes of the Israeli occupation” in the Gaza Strip. They called on the Belgian government to take urgent steps to stop what they described as a “war of extermination and systematic starvation” against the Palestinian people, which aims at ethnic cleansing and forced displacement.
The protesters urged the Belgian government to impose strict sanctions on the Israeli occupation and to fulfill its responsibility to protect its citizens participating in the “Global Sumud Flotilla,” which aims to break the siege on Gaza amid a catastrophic humanitarian situation and famine.
Participants stressed that any Israeli attack on the activists in the flotilla would constitute a blatant violation of international law, placing Belgium under direct responsibility to take necessary measures to protect its citizens and hold Israel accountable.
