Belgian Prime Minister: “We Officially Recognize the State of Palestine”
BRUSSELS, Sept. 23 (YPA) – Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever has announced that his country has officially decided to recognize the State of Palestine, a move that expresses Belgium’s support for the two-state solution and an end to the Palestinian-Zionist conflict.
This declaration came during a speech he delivered at a high-level international conference in New York, organized under the auspices of the United Nations. The conference, titled “Finding a Solution to the Palestinian Issue and Implementing the Two-State Solution,” was an initiative led by France and Saudi Arabia.
De Wever stated that Belgium has long advocated for the two-state option and affirmed this stance by joining the signatories of the “New York Declaration.” He also noted that his country demonstrates its commitment through the humanitarian support it provides to the Gaza Strip.
“We recently airlifted more than 190 tons of humanitarian aid to meet the urgent needs in Gaza,” he explained. “The Belgian government has also decided to add €12.5 million to its humanitarian aid budget for the Strip.”
De Wever warned against the continuation of illegal Zionist settlement activities in the West Bank, pointing out that the lack of a decisive international response threatens the possibility of a Palestinian state and undermines the chance for a two-state solution.
“Recent statements by a number of Zionist ministers, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, that deny the possibility of a Palestinian state, compel us to reaffirm the right of the Palestinians to their independent state,” he concluded.
